A woman, who wrote to me from the U.S., asked if we sleep in hammocks here. I believe she thought Ecuador was not yet far enough along to be using beds. J
Answer: We sleep in beds.
Actually, some people do have hammocks on their porches...but not in their bedrooms. J At least not that I know of.
You will see some examples of our furniture in the photos attached. You can pretty much have what you want in furniture. If the stores don't have it, you can have it made at very reasonable prices.
All the furniture in the attached photos was custom-made by local carpenters. I designed it all based on Shaker- and Mission-Style furniture found in the U.S.
We remodeled this home in every way conceivable: floors, doors, windows, etc. The wood stairway to the loft was formerly made of metal. Every arch you see was newly created (there were no arches). All lamps and light fixtures were purchased in nearby Loja (about a 35-minute drive).
The two open arched-entrances to the dining room in photo 4814 did not exist. We created them. The arch on the left was a solid wall. The one on the right was a rectangular window (with a metal frame). What is now the dining and conference room was outside.
Next, I will send you more photos of the interior including the kitchen.
The photos:
Photo 0783 was taken in December 23, 2005. We were preparing a Christmas meal for our employees.
The other photos show you our remodeled (to say the least) kitchen. J We completed this remodel about five months ago or so.
As you can see, the kitchen has beautiful granite counter tops, a ceramic tile floor and modern custom-made cabinets and appliances.
It also has a pass-through to the dining area, which you will see in other photos.
This is our dining room which is sometimes used as a conference room. In photo 4839, you can see the pass-through to the kitchen.
All furniture, including the mirror, was custom-made by Vilcabamba carpenters. They also made all the windows and doors.
This space had been outdoors previously. Two arched entrances from the living room were created...and two walls were added outside to enclose the space.
As noted previously, all furniture (and windows and doors) was custom-made by Vilcabamba carpenters.
