Vilcabamba Glimpse #27

The Hiking and Horseback Riding Trails

In past Glimpses, I have mentioned the hiking and horseback riding trails at the ranch, Hacienda San Joaquin.

In this Glimpse, I would like to provide you with a better understanding of the vastness of the property.

In photo 4944, the ranch consists of all that you see on the left side of the river except the mountains in the distant background draped with clouds.

The ranch is comprised of 663 acres. That is calculated as if the land were flat. When the land is mountainous, as the whole northern portion of the ranch is, the actual acreage increases dramatically. A civil engineer estimated that because of the ranches mountains there are about 2,500 acres here. You can see in photo 4944 that the great majority of the land is being left in its natural state.

It is within this vastness that we are creating our hiking and horseback riding trails.

We have begun clearing these trails. Photos 5090 and 5091 give you a sense of what these trails look like.

The hiking and horseback riding trails originate from the Equestrian and Hiking Center.

There, you can view the hiking and horseback riding trail. We will also create interconnecting arteries off the principle trail.
