The ranch, Hacienda San Joaquin, is bordered by mountains on three sides and by the Vilcabamba River on the fourth (the south).
Often when I look at the river, I am reminded of the popular 1992 film, "A River Runs Through It". The Vilcabamba River doesn't run "through" the ranch but runs along its southern boundary. There are numerous beautiful riverfront properties on the Vilcabamba River.
The Vilcabamba River is formed in Vilcabamba by the confluence of two rivers that flow from the extraordinary 360,000-acre Podocarpus National Park just east of town and visible from the hacienda. The Park is one of the most bio-diverse areas on earth.
The Podocarpus gets abundant rains, has many high-up lakes, and provides a plentiful year-around water-supply for drinking, irrigation and recreation. It's an enormous plus at a time when water shortages grow in many places in our world.
he attached photos provide views of the Vilcabamba River adjacent to the ranch. The ranch is on the left side as you view the photos.
